This is a great time of year to get out on the water as temps cool and fall advances the Trout are eating at a frenzied pace. They can’t resist the offerings presented in a natural drift
The conditions are improving as the weather cools. Weather is great and the flows are dropping slowly but remain clear (flows are holding at just about 9000cfs). Fall conditions continue to be good with clear flows, low water (by normal summer standards) and lots of big wild rainbows in the lower river.
It is definitely an Indian summer and the days are hot by anyone’s standards (mid 90’s, nights mid 60’s). The evenings offer warm weather, beautiful scenery and big wild fish that will test your reflexes and skill. November is just around the corner and Fall conditions will really set in. That means cooler weather, spawning salmon and steelhead not to mention big fat rainbows and perhaps the best fishing of the year. The big Rainbows are holding all throughout the system with the biggest fish in the upper reaches of the river. They are definitely responding to ‘egg’ imitations. It’s the ‘Legs and Eggs’ time of year so I recommend a rubber legs on top with a bead dropper and a may or caddis 3rd fly.
